We contribute towards solving problems of environmental sustainability and energy storage through fundamental research involving the physical chemistry of electrolytes.

Electrolytes are all around us: they are the fluid solvent for life on earth, both within living organisms and surrounding us as oceans and rivers. They are also key ingredients in energy storage devices such as batteries and supercapacitors. Remarkably, fundamental physical chemistry of electrolytes still presents serious challenges to our understanding of the liquid state.

In carrying out our research we:
(i)    contribute towards developing and curating knowledge of the natural world for the benefit of humanity, working collaboratively amongst an international community, and
(ii)    provide a training and mentoring environment for outstanding scientists at various career stages, from undergraduate to postdoctoral fellows, supporting and empowering them towards the next step of their own scientific missions.
